Microsoft: "Power BI Desktop projects (PBIP) and Power BI enhanced report format (PBIR) are generally available." (Microsoft Learn)

How it works

  1. Save as a project. In Power BI Desktop: File > Save as > Power BI project (.pbip).
  2. Ask Claude. For example: "Read the model in Sales and suggest a report".
  3. Open the new report in Power BI Desktop: it is a new .pbip next to your model.

The 8 tools

  • read_model: Reads the tables, the columns with their types, the measures with their formats and the date tables. Changes nothing.
  • suggest_fields: Picks the measures and columns for each KPI card, chart, table and slicer.
  • check_model_health: The Model Health Check: a score and every finding, with fix scripts for you to review (never applied).
  • plan_layout: The exact position of every visual on the page, mirrored for right to left. Writes nothing.
  • create_report: A new report next to your model, every visual placed and bound to your fields.
  • check_report: Checks a report that already exists, offline: Microsoft's validator and the rules measured in Power BI Desktop. Changes nothing.
  • generate_theme: A Power BI report theme, exactly as the DataArcus Theme Generator makes it.
  • add_gulf_calendar: A Gulf date table (Hijri, Ramadan, Eid and the country's weekend) as a script for you to check and apply.

A real run

Measured on 8 October 2026 with DataArcus 0.2.8, on a made-up home-goods sales model (Marsa Home):

./
├── Marsa Home.SemanticModel/
├── RC 028 Chat.pbip
└── RC 028 Chat.Report/
    └── definition/
        ├── report.json
        └── pages/
  • 91 files written, all new: 2 pages and 2 tooltip pages, 45 visuals.
  • Microsoft's report validator: 0 errors, 0 warnings.
  • The model's files byte-identical before and after.

What keeps it safe

  • It never changes your model and never writes over a file: every report is new, next to your model.
  • Claude Desktop asks you before every file it writes.
  • It checks the report offline with Microsoft's report validator.
  • It reads your model's structure (tables, columns, measures, formats), not your data. What the AI app sees: PRIVACY.md.

Requirements and limits

  • Windows only.
  • A recent Power BI Desktop: the reports use recent features that older versions lack.
  • Claude Desktop.
  • A private beta: the package is not signed yet, and we send its SHA-256 so you can check the file you received.
  • Models above about 50 tables are experimental.
